Established in 2012, the Oriental Heritage Without Borders e.V. is a cultural and scientific association based in Berlin and formed by a group of enthusiastic scholars and researchers, all with different educational backgrounds, whom share a great interest as well as concern for the rich culture and heritage of the Orient. We are simply a group of ordinary people caring for extraordinary places.

With that said, culture is a living material, and thus protecting and promoting the arts and cultures is about living and sharing the diversity of our cultural expressions. Hence OHWB e.V. is strongly dedicated to further contribute to the documentation, promotion, preservation and dissemination of the vast knowledge and understanding of the exceptional oriental heritage.

The purpose of the Association is to safeguard and encourage the conservation and sustainable management of both the tangible and intangible cultural heritage as well as the natural heritage of the oriental region*, especially the heritage in danger and post conflict; in addition to promoting the professional development of its members and partners in this regard.

Hence, OHWB is trying to build up different sectors within its body in order to care for the different aspects of the oriental heritage, that is to cover both the tangible and intangible cultural heritage such as: archaeology, architecture & urban heritage, languages, arts & drama, music, literature and natural environments etc. around which the main activities of the Association will be focused on. Moreover, we seek to introduce not only the historic and traditional but also the contemporary heritage as well as the new-born customs of this vast region.

We are most eager to work closely in partnership with other associations, professional and academic institutions and organizations whom also share our interests, passions and concerns for the conservation, safeguard and promotion of our common heritage which is inevitably essential to the sustainable development of this key historic region; as it naturally recognizes the importance of cultural continuity and of human history in nourishing social cohesion, and a sense of belonging in a context within which helps to reconcile with the past, understand the present and contemplate for the future.
